Early Life and Education

Shaquem Alphonso Griffin, who is popularly known as Shaquem Griffin for short, was born on July 20, 1995, in St. Petersburg, Florida, to his parents, Terry Griffin and Tangie Griffin.

As of July 2023, he is currently 28 years old. Griffin is the twin brother of Houston Texans cornerback Shaquill Griffin.

When Griffin was four years old, he had his left hand amputated after being diagnosed with amniotic band syndrome.

Career 

After graduating from high school, Griffin attended the University of Central Florida (UCF), where he played on the Knights football team.

He started all 24 games he played in his first two seasons, and he was named to the All-American Conference first team in both 2016 and 2017.

In his junior season, Griffin led UCF with 109 tackles, and he was named the American Athletic Conference Defensive Player of the Year.

Griffin declared for the 2018 NFL Draft after his junior season. He was drafted by the Seattle Seahawks in the fifth round (141st overall) of the draft. 

Griffin was the first player with one hand to be drafted by an NFL team. Griffin made his NFL debut in the Seahawks’ 2018 season opener against the Denver Broncos.

He recorded an impressive six solo tackles in the game. Griffin played in 13 games in his rookie season, and he recorded 33 tackles and one sack.
