Jesse was born on 12th September 1971 in Gary, Indiana, USA. He was known to be of mixed ethnicity, American-African, and American Nationality.

Jesse performed with his siblings, Tamara, Trina, and Jacob. In 1993, the family performed at a local talent show where a producer whose name is Carl Roland in Kansas City attention was drawn to him.

“JP” was rated No. 18 on the R&B chart and No. 71 on the Billboard 200. Powell’s second single in Silas Records’ Merge titled “Something in the Past” which was rated No. 67 was later released.

Jesse left the Silas Records’ Merge and signed with “Riviera Records” in 2002. He released his fourth album, “Jesse” on 14th October 2003.


Jesse, the popular songwriter and singer died from a diagnosis called “cardiac attack” on 13th September, 2022 at the age of 51.
