He is from Sykesville, Maryland, in the United States. Brandon is the grandson of former prominent Baltimore Colts player Roy Hilton.

While not so much information is known about his upbringing and early life, Brandon graduated from Gilman School, where he was fond of playing sports that included football, basketball, and track. 

Due to his versatility and extraordinary skills, he was named team captain during his senior year of high school. Brandon was on the championship squad at the 2006 Maryland Interscholastic Athletic Association.

Career

Copeland played college football at the University of Pennsylvania, where he started 42 games at linebacker.

He was a four-year letterman and a two-time All-Ivy League selection. He also served as a team captain in his senior year.

Copeland finished his career with 341 tackles, 22.5 tackles for loss, 7.5 sacks, and four interceptions. After going undrafted in the 2013 NFL Draft, Copeland was signed by the Baltimore Ravens as a free agent. He was waived by the Ravens on September 3, 2013.

On October 8, 2013, the following month, he got signed into the Tennessee Titans. Unfortunately, he was waived by the Titans and then signed a one-year contract with the Detroit Lions on April 7, 2015. 

He was promoted to the active roster in 2015. He played in 14 games in 2015, starting one. He had 18 tackles and two sacks.

He was waived by the Lions on May 2, 2017. On March 19, 2018, he was signed by the New York Jets. He played in 16 games, starting 10. He had 35 tackles and 5 sacks with the team.  

Copeland was signed by the New England Patriots on March 25, 2020, for a mouth-watering $1.1 million contract deal.

However, he was placed on injured reserve for some time on October 28, 2020, 6 months after he was signed. 

He signed a contract with the Baltimore Ravens practice squad on September 21, 2022, and was released a month later, on October 18, 2022.

Unfortunately, Copeland made headlines when he officially announced his retirement from the NFL on August 21, 2023.
