Amaechi was born in Obosi, a village in Idemili North, Anambra State. He attended St. Mary’s Primary School, Obosi, Oraifite Grammar School before he furthered his education at the University of Nigeria, Nsukka (UNN) where he studied economics and graduated in 1987. His educational pursuits culminated at the esteemed University of Nigeria Nsukka (UNN).


In 1989, after his youth service, Amaechi started working for NAN (News Agency of Nigeria). He left his job a few years later for an acting role in his first movie as Akunatakasi in Taboo 1, a Nigerian movie. This marked the beginning of a remarkable career in the Nigerian movie industry, Nollywood, in 1998. He starred in many movies including Taboo 1 (1989), Aki and Pawpaw, Karishika (1998), and Aki na Ukwa (2002), Igodo (1999). His role in the iconic film Aki na Ukwa showcased his exceptional comedic timing, making it a classic in Nollywood. Amaechi, a distinguished figure in the Nigerian film industry, has left an indelible mark with a portfolio boasting over 250 movie appearances.
